Moonbow Magazine is excited to kick off our residency program! We are looking for a group of residents to join our magazine from May 2025 – August 2025 under the leadership of our editor-in-chief, Esosa Zuwa.
*All positions at Moonbow Magazine are unpaid and volunteer-based.
What do I get from being a resident?
- Valuable experience working in a literary magazine, with a wealth of transferable skills and work to put in a portfolio.
- An opportunity to create a special residence only issue.
- A letter of recommendation at the end of the program, a professional reference, and networking opportunities with other residents.
- Workshop opportunities with other creatives in your field.
Requirements
- Must be able to commit up to 8 hours a week.
- Must be between the ages of 16-27.
- Must have consistent access to Wi-Fi and a computer or equivalent device.
- Must be available for team meetings and workshops.
- Must be able to communicate consistently through Discord and Google Classroom.
Roles & Responsibilities
Creative Writing Resident (6)
- Write and workshop 1-2 creative writing pieces for each issue.
- Write and workshop 1-2 creative writing pieces minimum for the blog.
- Assist with editing of submitted pieces.
Journalism Resident (6)
- Write and workshop 1-2 interviews/reviews of the magazine.
- Write and workshop 1-2 interviews/reviews for the blog.
- Attend press conferences and interviews for various music artists on behalf of our magazine.
- Co-write the Moonbow Magazine newsletter with the Social Media Resident.
- Pitch original journalistic ideas for the magazine.
Visual Artist Resident (6)
- Design front and back covers for issues.
- Create and workshop 1-2 visual art/photography pieces for each issue.
- Create and workshop 1-2 visual art/photography pieces for the blog.
PR Resident (4)
- Curate a list of creatives (musicians, filmmakers, etc) to be interviewed for the magazine, and write pitches.
- Coordinate interviews between creatives and their management team.
- Help strategize and launch advertising and brand projects.
Social Media Resident (5)
- Manage and maintain issue social media post calendars for each issue.
- Design social media graphics via Canva.
- Bring in social media promotion ideas.
- Assist with writing and formatting the weekly newsletter.
